சிற்றம் சிறு காலே வந்து உன்னை சேவித்து உன்
பொற்றாமரை அடியே போற்றும் பொருள் கேளாய்
பெற்றம் மேய்த்து உண்ணும் குலத்தில் பிறந்து நீ
குற்றேவல் எங்களைக் கொள்ளாமல் போகாது
இற்றைப் பறை கொள்வான் அன்று காண் கோவிந்தா
எற்றைக்கும் ஏழ் ஏழ் பிறவிக்கும் உன்தன்னோடு
உற்றோமே ஆவோம் உனக்கே நாம் ஆட்செய்வோம்
மற்றை நம் காமங்கள் மாற்றேலோர் எம்பாவாய்!

கண்ணபிரானே! விடியற் காலத்திலேயே இவ்விடத்தேற வந்து உன்னைத் தெண்டனிட்டு உனது அழகிய திருவடித் தாமரைகளை மங்களாசாசனம் பண்ணுவதற்குப் ப்ரயோஜனத்தை கேட்டருள வேண்டும்; பசுக்களை மேய்த்து உண்ணும் இடைக் குலத்தில் பிறந்த நீ எங்களிடத்தில் அந்தரங்க கைங்கரியத்தை திருவுள்ளம் பற்றாதொழிய ஒண்ணாது, இன்று கொடுக்கப் படுகின்ற இப்பறையைப் பெற்றுக் கொள்வதற்காக நாங்கள் வந்தோமல்லோம்; காலம் உள்ளளவும் உன்னோடு எவ் அவதாரங்களிலும் உன்னோடு உறவு உடையவர்களாகக் கடவோம்; உன்னக்கு மாத்திரமே நாங்கள் அடிமை செய்யக் கடவோம்; எங்களுடைய இதர விஷய விருப்பங்களை தவிர்த்து அருள வேண்டும்;

Introduction:

It must be clearly noted that AnDAL through out ThiruppAvai has asked for 'kainkaryam', that is uninterrupted service at His feet in the pretext of 'parai'. Its very similar to they coming in the pretext of '~nOnbu', but their actual goal being having a sEvai of Sri KrishNA and enjoying His company.

Way to Attain Him:

Its an interesting concept in Srivaishnava sampradhAyam wherein the route to attain Him is Himself. Our preceptors have been very clear in that. There are no other means to be handled by 'prapannA's' to attain Him. He should be taken as the means to attain Him. Our poorvAchAryA's stress that 'prapatti' or the act of surrender to Him also is no means to attain Him, because the 'act' might have a stinch of ego, that 'I' have done it and hence pollutes the devotees status.

Its for Him to Enjoy:

In this particular pAsuram AnDAL stresses upon a few important aspects of service to the Lord. Firstly, the service done must be done without expecting worldly pleasures or anything in return. Secondly the service done must be for the fullest enjoyment of the Lord alone. A devotee enjoying the service that He does to the Lord was considered too low by our preceptors. That is what AnDAL stresses in the line, "unakkE ~nAm ATseivOm". That is, we serve you for the sake of your own happiness and our happiness will result ONLY by seeing your happiness.

The Actual 'paRai':

Hearing these prayers Sri KrishNA asked His servants to bring the huge drum. Seeing this AnDAL replied, "Oh Sri KrishNA, you have misunderstood us. We did not come here and prayed for your mercy to et this drum. We are interested in uninterrupted, selfless service at your lotus feet. Bless this service and your company always for us. We would love to be born with you and keep in your company always. It should be your mercy to guard us from showing interest in anything other than you."

This is the most important pAsuram of thiruppAvai in which AnDAL clearly shows what should be the goal of every single soul. Its nothing but service to eternity at the Lord's lotus feet for His own happiness.
