குத்து விளக்கெரிய கோட்டுக் கால் கட்டில் மேல்
மெத்தென்ற பஞ்ச சயனத்தின் மேல் ஏறி
கொத்தலர் பூங்குழல் நப்பினை கொங்கை மேல்
வைத்துக் கிடந்த மலர் மார்பா வாய் திறவாய்
மைத்தடம் கண்ணினாய் நீ உன் மணாளனை
எத்தனை போதும் துயிலெழ ஒட்டாய் காண்
எத்தனையேலும் பிரிவு ஆற்றகில்லாயால்
தத்துவம் அன்று தகவேலோர் எம்பாவாய்!

இத்திருப்பவையின் உரை!


நில விளக்கானவை நாற்புறமும் எரிந்து நிற்க, யானை தந்தங்களினால் செய்த கால்களை உடைய கட்டிலிலே, மெத்தென்று இருக்குமதாயும் அழகு, குளிர்த்தி, மேன்மை, பரிமளம், வெண்மை என்னும் (பஞ்ச - ஐந்து) ஐந்து குணங்களை உடைய படுக்கையின் மீதேறி, கொத்துக் கொத்தாக அலர்கின்ற பூக்களை அணிந்த கூந்தலை உடையளான நப்பின்னைப் பிரட்டியினுடைய திருமுலைத் தடங்களை தன்மேல் வைத்துக் கொண்டு பள்ளி கொள்கின்ற அகன்ற திருமார்பை உடைய பிரானே! வாய் திறந்து ஒரு வார்த்தை அருளிச் செய்ய வேண்டும். மையிட்டு அலங்கரிக்கப்பட்ட விசாலமான கண்களையுடைய நப்பின்னாய்! நீ உனக்குக் கணவனான கண்ணபிரானை ஒரு நொடிப் பொழுதும் படுக்கையை விட்டு எழுந்திருக்க ஒட்டுகிராயில்லை; க்ஷண காலமும் அவனைப் பிரிந்து தரித்து இருக்க மட்டுகிராயில்லை; ஆ! நீ இப்படி இருப்பது உனக்குத் தகுதி அன்று! இஃது உண்மை.

Thaniyan:

The specialty of this pAsuram is that the thaniyan of thiruppAvai by Sri ParAsara Bhattar, "neeLA thungasthanagiri.." is a literal translation of this pAsuram. Its a good story as to how the thaniyan was born.

The Pleasure in His Company:

AnDAL sees Sri ~Nappinnai lying on the expensive couch with Sri KrishNA. The cot rests on ivory bases on all four sides. AnDAL feels the ivory for which was brought by His valorous deed of plucking all the four tusks of the mighty elephant kuvalayA peeTam. Being the rich wife of such a hero, She could not afford to sleep elsewhere. AnDAL refers to many pleasures in this pAsuram the idea being that the gOpis should get them all in His company only and thats exactly why ~Nappinnai is keeping company with Sri KrishNA.

AnDAL finally rebukes Her saying "If at all you do not ensure this, you do not have mercy on us."
